This is a special post for me, because it was March 14, my Birthday, and I received the most perfect gift I could imagine.
Due to a very tight budget, and how I enjoy the ability to pull over where and when ever I want to sleep - I have been sleeping/living in my rental car the entire trip. It was perfectly fine up until my final few days when the nights got much colder. So I found myself sitting in the car, watching the sunset over the water abundant area of Lakes Entrance - rationalizing that since it is my Birthday, I should treat myself to hot shower and warm bed for the night. I walked into a nearby motel, and ask the reception woman how much per night. She gave me the price, and I asked if there are any discounts I could have. She hesitated, but gave me the local discount. I shared with her my thoughts of how much I have paid in gas this trip and naturally gave her the "Thank You for Being You" cards, telling her the route I have driven. While she and I were both struggling with the situation, I then told her how I am trying to rationalize this expense since it is my Birthday. She was obviously agonizing over not being able to give me more of a discount, and told me she does not have the authority to lower the price anymore. I said I understand, and in that moment, she whispered to me, telling me to leave the motel and she would meet me down the street when she gets off work in a few minutes. That absolutely beautiful being, and her perfectly matched generous soul of a husband let me stay in their lovely guest room with a warm cozy bed, and very hot private shower. :) :) :) Birthday Blessings FOR SURE! “When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.” ― Maya Angelou So much Gratitude and Love for you my dear new friends. (I am catching up on the blog days later, so the dates are not accurate to when I was there)
After driving for days through the dessert, it was time for a swim - so I headed to Mount Gambier, that is known for it's limestone, volcanic landscapes, crater lakes. Blue lake is definitely a beauty, but unfortunate for me, swimming is not allowed in all three of the lakes in Mount Gambier :( After staying one night, I continued my pursuit for a swim, and went to Piccaninnie Ponds - where you can snorkel and dive though pristine waters and caves. Well, it was way too cold to go in, but I had a very nice relaxing meditation there :) Next stop was Apollo bay. I loved the bay and little town so much, that it is one of those places that I could see myself living there. The seasons are changing and the weather is getting too cold to swim anymore. “Every new season of you life will be an opportunity for you to learn and grow. Don't celebrate the good without celebrating the bad because they both work together to prepare you for the next season of your life.” - Theresa Lewis THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU As soon as I saw it I knew I was in love! Truly awe inducing. Just to see it from a distance and feel it standing there in the middle of the desert on its own - so grand, so majestic.
I am drawn to these places that are considered power/sacred spots on the planet, because of the Undeniable transformation I receive while there. Not sure if it's due to the fact that that these particular areas are actually a power spot, but I do know that there is a collective consciousness of sacredness that has a definite effect on those visiting. While walking the 3 hours around the base, I was in the deepest meditative state of love and gratitude I have ever felt. Each time I go to one of these places, my love for this planet and all that resides on it, gets deeper and more profound. Soooo much love and gratitude for life! "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." - Helen Keller THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU Ok, after driving the past 7 hours, I had to stop and tell you how I got out of Julia Creek, after hearing they are not letting ANY cars out today...
Woke up at 6am and went directly to the gas station where the truckers were waiting to get notice when they can leave. I asked the gas attendant what the news is for today, and she said the police are letting a few of the trucks go that are loaded with food and petrol (some have been waiting 6 days) , but ABSOLUTELY NO CARS TODAY - it is still very dangerous. I drove away to get my morning coffee and think about how now I can hang in the library and blog all day...hahaha The same moment I was walking into the market for coffee, the officer I asked for info from yesterday was going in. He told me yesterday that he is from a different area and that he is also stuck in Julia Creek. Well, he was very happy to tell me that he finally gets to leave this morning. I said I just found out that there is no way I get to leave today, and that they are only letting a few truckers out. He said that is true, but they are letting him go too. Then he said that if I want I can follow him out, and that if I stay very close to his truck, it will break the water for me to make it through. Did I hesitate on that invite? NO WAY!!!! The moment he drove up to the police barricade and told them to let me through with him, I felt "BLESSED BEYOND WORDS"! I have to admit, I was a bit nervous with the idea of driving through the flooded areas, but I was much more elated with the feeling of freedom to let it bother me too much. After we made it through the first few, I thought, this is no big deal. Then he motioned for me to pull over to talk with him, and he told me that I will have to follow much closer and put my car in the lowest gear for the next ones because they will be a lot deeper. Uhooo... now I'm scared. Well obviously I made it through... but the best part is, when we got past all the flooded areas, and we said our goodbyes to go separate directions, he said that we were "very lucky" because those areas were way worse just last night. I don't believe in "luck" - I believe I was definitely blessed :) "When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around." - Willie Nelson THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU Haha... this is probably the most posts you will see from me in a day... since I don't have much more to do :) This is what they are posting on the Queensland weather site: WESTERN Queensland is bracing for what could be the state’s biggest flooding event since 1974 this weekend. The state’s leading independent weather forecasters are predicting a down pouring of rain around the Channel Country that could “rival anything during the past 44 years”. More than 400mm of rain is expected to fall around Boulia and Cloncurry over the next eight days. Higgins Storm Chasing yesterday warned western Queensland residents to prepare for a potential “major flood” in the next five days. “It may even be so significant that nothing has ever been experienced like it in this state,” they wrote. It started out sweet...
I had the road all to myself, going steady 100mph for hours, and even enjoying driving through two different storms. Being a person that absolutely loves water, I was very please that the entire coast was over abundant with water everywhere. I have to admit I didn't think driving through the "dry" desert for the next 12 days would be as satisfying. Well, too my surprise - not only were there streams, ponds, rivers, marshes everywhere... there was also storms, flooding, and a cyclone coming my way. I am currently stuck in a the very small road town of Julia creek - with no way forward or backward. There are loads of truck drivers here that have been stuck for the past 5 days. I will wait and see which way opens up first, and that will decide it I continue on to Uluru or not. It would be sad for me to miss Uluru since it was the main interest for me in Australia. Great news there is a library here with internet, which allows me to catch up with my blogging :) “Life is no different than the weather. Not only is it unpredictable, but it shows us a new perspective of the world every day.” ― Suzy Kassem THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU
Finished the absolutely awesome coast drive from Sydney to Townsville. Stopped for my daily swim along the way, and took a boat cruise from Airlie Beach to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef - what an experience! After this post, I will be starting my drive through the Outback, so most likely will not have service to post until maybe Melbourne. If you are reading this and you like what I am doing, please write a comment or/like the page. I am hoping for more interaction with all of you. Also, if I gave you two cards, pleeeez take a picture of you giving it to someone, and post it on here or the FB and Instagram pages. I am doing this 3 week and many hour drive by myself, with no radio or other stimulus but the wonders of the scenery. Because of this, I am having the blessed opportunity to be in a peaceful meditative state most of the time - which offers me some lovely insights. One that keeps coming to mind is that "EVERY place/country on this planet is naturally beautiful". Let's take as many moments possible a day to GIVE THANKS FOR LIFE ON EARTH. “In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous.” » Aristotle THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU G'day Mates!
I have been in Australia for three days, and just now getting internet service. I usually drive around 8 hrs per day, broken up by a refreshing swim at some of Australia's most beautiful beaches. Check out the map I previously posted and you can follow me on my drive. I am now at Noosa Shire and on my way to snorkel at a few of Australia's best snorkeling spots towards Mackay Harbor. The Aussies are very warm and friendly people, and I feel so blessed to be able to connect with so many of them.
