The Island of Hawaii (the big island) has been calling me back in a very strong way for the past couple of years. I had plans on going there last year but somehow I ended up somewhere else. Then right during the time I was going to go, Kilauea erupted, causing it’s 35 years of lava flow activity to cease.
I spent most of my life living on the Island of Oahu, but the Island of Hawaii has always been a big love of mine. In the late 80’s I spent 3 years building my dream home on Parker Ranch, and during that time and all the visits to that Island, I never explored the volcano areas… so finally I did :) I rented an Airbnb on Hilo side for a week with plans on spending the entire time hiking through all the trails and craters in the Volcano National park. I was very excited my 30 year old son and his girlfriend who both live on Oahu, came to join me. We not only hiked in the Volcano area, we found waterfall and waterslides we had all to our selves, jumped off South Point Cliff, went the to the best black, green, and white sand beaches, and ate the ONOLICIOUS fresh poke. People often ask me which of the Hawaiian Islands do I like best? And my answer is "I LOVE them all. They are each special in their own way." The Island of Hawaii represents to me the immense power of creation and destruction... they are one and the same. When I travel to new places in the world, it is like meeting a new person... Each place has it's own personality, it's unique vibrational quality... ALL an important aspect of the planet we share. “In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.” – Abraham Lincoln THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU
